Te Reo Maori

Course Description

Te Reo Māori is the foundation language of New Zealand, the ancestral language of the tangata whenua and one of the tāonga guaranteed protection under the Treaty of Waitangi. It also provides this country with a unique language identity in the rest of the world. (Te Taura Whiri). 

You will learn:

  • and understand the importance of karakia
  • to pronounce Māori words correctly
  • to identify Māori key words
  • about your family tree
  • to research your family history (iwi, hapu, awa, waka) and communicate about school and home
  • about stories and mythology in Te Ao Māori.
